Provenance:

ex coll. Otto and Eva Benesch, Vienna

Otto Benesch (Ebenfurth 1896-1964 Vienna) was a noted Austrian art historian, who was director of the Albertina from 1947 to 1961.  He married Eva Steiner (1905-1983), the daughter of artist Lilly Steiner, in 1934.

In 1918, Egon Schiele drew a portrait of Eva Steiner in black chalk.  Schiele's portrait of Eva is now in the collection of the Albertina, Vienna.
