An historical photograph of this painting existed in the Picture Archives of the Austrian National Library; however, the whereabouts of this large version of Diefenbach's famous motif of the fairy dance were long unknown, until the painting recently resurfaced in northern Germany.


Dr. Claudia Wagner has confirmed this work's authenticity.
