Stephan Kern
studied in Berlin and at the Karlsruhe Academy, there as a master student of
Ferdinand Keller. Now an obscure and forgotten artist, in
his day, Kern was known for, among other work, his paintings of the former
Kurhaus/Schwarzwaldhotel [Black Forest hotel] Gertelbach and its environs,
reproduced in postcards circa 1900-1905.
