Lucidus Diefenbach was the son of visionary artist Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, who is represented in depth in The Daulton Collection.

Lucidus studied with A. von Schroetter at the Steiermaerkische Meisterschule in Graz and with Schmidt-Reutte at the Academy in Karlsruhe. He lived in Toerwang am Samerberg for several years, and painted mostly portraits and landscapes.  His work is found in the collections of the Baden-Baden and Kiel Art Associations, as well as in the State Museum in Schwerin.
