This print is a fragment of an early state of a portrait of "Prof. L," presumably a geology professor, that, in 1911, was published in the art periodical Die Kunst für Alle.  Our fragment appears to be the only surviving evidence of this state, as it does not otherwise appear in the published literature on Brömse.  For the final state, see Wilhelm Michel, "August Brömse," Die Kunst für Alle XXVII (Munich: F.
