"Gertrude Honzatko-Mediz (1893–1975) was an Austrian artist, daughter of the well-known artist couple Emilie Mediz Pelikan and Karl Mediz, who were firmly established in the Viennese Symbolism scene. After the early death of her mother, Gertrude was raised by her grandparents in Krems. Deeply affected by this loss, she developed spiritualist and mystical artistic works, including etchings, small oil paintings, pastel chalk drawings and ornamental ink drawings, which she often signed with her mother's name. She is best known for her mediumistic portraits of spirits from the 12th century and her fascinating interplay of artistic activity with spiritual contacts. Her works have been shown in exhibitions such as ‘Austria im Rosennetz’ (1996) at the MAK Vienna and are included in the Arnulf Rainer Collection. Her art is characterised by a close connection between mediumism, mysticism and artistic expressiveness."  W
